Autumn days at the Museum of the Future

(Linz, 18.10.2021) When the days outside get grayer and colder, the Ars Electronica Center’s vibrant indoor program is all the better for spending a day at the museum with the whole family. The autumn vacations, and of course the days surrounding them, provide the perfect occasion and the time needed to do just that.
The museum also offers workshops on creative world images and all kinds of utensils that are used to produce sounds, as well as the opportunity to illustrate incredible distances and sizes in space, catch fish in Deep Space, or explore the Machine Learning Studio and the Children’s Research Lab in a playful way on the Family Tour. Deep Space is dedicated to the building principles in the microcosm and macrocosm in “From small to big”.

Workshop registrations at center@ars.electronica.art or 0732.7272.51 are required.

An overview of the program:

Deep Space Live: Of volumes and lengths in the universe
THU 21.10.2021 / 19:00

In this evening we will try to make distances, sizes and volumes more tangible. We will show how distances and ranges are measured in the universe. Which methods are available to us. How such gigantic volumes are calculated. For comparison, we draw on sizes known to us all and show you many a size ratio. An evening to marvel at.

Family Deep Space
TUE 26.10.2021 – SUN 31.10.2021 / daily at 12:30 and 15:30

A Best of for Families. Catch fish, travel to distant galaxies or solve giant puzzles – dive into the bright colors of Deep Space 8K with your family!

Family Tour
TUE 26.10.2021 – SUN 31.10.2021 / daily at 11:30 and 14:30

Whether in the Machine Learning Studio or in the Children’s Research Lab – discovering, playing, researching is the focus of the Family Tour across the Museum of the Future!

Workshop: Flat world views
WED 27.10.2021 / 9:30–12:00

Earth observation technologies such as satellites have enabled completely new perspectives on our planet, and freely accessible apps offer us a free view of it. In the workshop Flat World Pictures, the students design their own world pictures – and they are only flat because we work with cyano technology to design them.

Workshop: Ding Dong
THU 28.10.2021 / 9:30–12:00

If you enjoy experimenting with tones and sounds, then join us as we bring sound to our house on non-instruments. In the Open Soundstudio you can turn all this into your own song. Please also bring your “favorite thing”! What it is doesn’t matter! We’ll find out what sound your “thing” makes.

Deep Space: From small to large – from microcosm to macrocosm
SUN 31.10.2021 / 16:00-17:30

Have you ever wondered whether there are differences in the construction of the smallest structures of the human body, the nature surrounding us and the infinite universe? Or whether we find common construction principles here? Exactly such analogies we dedicate ourselves to this evening. The analogies and comparabilities in the ultrastructural construction here on earth and outside in the universe. Analogies, which were already thought in former times and are confirmed today by natural science. On the basis of some spectacular pictures we look at the construction principles. From the microcosm to the macrocosm.
