(Linz, October 22, 2013) A very interesting and diversified program is set for this Thursday, October 24 at the Ars Electronica Center. At 6:30 PM, molecular biologist Manuel Selg will explain the impressive findings of the human genome project, the aim of which was to decode homo sapiens’ entire genetic makeup. And at 8 PM, Walter Schuster, director of the Linz Municipal Archive, invites his audience to take a journey into the past via historic stereographic images of the Linz cityscape and everyday life of city dwellers around 1900. The combination of the photographs’ 3-D effect and Deep Space’s high-definition 16×9-meter projection screen provides fascinating close-ups of bygone days in Linz.
Dr. Manuel Selg
Manuel Selg is professor of molecular biology in the Department of Technology and Environmental Sciences at the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences’ Wels Campus. He was instrumental in setting up the Ars Electronica Center’s BioLab and has taken over as scientific director of Project Genesis.
Dr. Walter Schuster
Walter Schuster was born in 1959 in Vienna. He is director of the Linz Municipal Archive, chairman of the Austrian Working Group for Urban Historical Research, and a member of the board of directors of the Association of Austrian Cities’ Municipal Archivists Working Group.
