Press Release: Deep Space Weekend: Cinematic Rendering / PDF

(Linz, November 14, 2016) The rapid development of medical imaging techniques such as cinematic rendering will be the focal-point theme of Dr. Franz Fellner, director of the Department of Radiology at Kepler University Clinic, at the next Deep Space Weekend on November 19-20. And Deep Space 8K will serve as a virtual anatomy theater when the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions presents new areas of application for cinematic rendering—in fashion, for instance. Kicking off the focus on cinematic rendering is a Deep Space LIVE on Thursday, November 17th.

Deep Space LIVE: The Universe Within – Cinematic Rendering
Thursday, November 17, 2016 / 7-8 PM

Dr. Franz Fellner talks about how researchers are taking advantage of innovations in the field of computer animation and applying them in certain medical field. This is opening up totally new ways to present human anatomy.

Here’s an overview of the lineup on Deep Space Weekend:

RHINOSPIDER: A Patent in Three Acts

Cinematic Rendering – Making of
Saturday & Sunday, November 19 & 20, 2016 / 2-2:30 both days

Dr. Franz Fellner sketches the rapid development of medical imaging procedures—from the discovery of x-rays to cinematic rendering. The dramatic arc of this entertaining presentation extends from works of art to such films as “Lord of the Rings” and “Star Wars,” and goes into other influences that have made an impact on the developers at Siemens Healthineers.

Cinematic Rendering – Anatomy Theater of the Future
Saturday, November 19, 2016 / 3-4 PM & Sunday, November 20, 2016 / 3-4 PM

There’s probably nowhere else on Earth where you can experience anatomy in more impressive fashion than in Deep Space 8K. That’s why this setting is so highly prized as a lecture hall by the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences for Health Profession. Featuring: Franz Fellner (director, Department of Radiology, Kepler University Clinic), Bernd Lamprecht (director of respiratory medicine, Kepler University Clinic), Alfred Olschowski (head of neurosurgery, Kepler University Clinic) and Andreas Shamiyeh (chief, 2nd Surgical Department, Kepler University Clinic).

Cinematic Rendering and Art – a new dimension of fashion
Saturday & Sunday, November 19 & 20, 2016 / 4:30-5 both days

The photorealistic depiction of CT and MRT data with cinematic rendering opens up new possibilities beyond the field of medicine too. A collaborative effort by the Ars Electronica Center and Linz Art University’s Fashion & Technology program provides astounding insights into the “anatomy” of clothing. With music by Richard Eigner and photos by Günther Parth.
