(Linz, 12.8.2020) The Ars Electronica Festival will take place from September 9 to 13. This year’s Festival will be staged for the first time at 120 locations around the world – not in spite of Corona, but because of it. On Thursday, August 13, 2020, the focus of Ars Electronica Home Delivery: Inside Festival! will be on what is happening in Linz. Starting at 3:00 p.m. (UTC+2), Martin Honzik (Director of the Ars Electronica Festival), Christa Sommerer (Head of Interface Cultures at the University of Art and Design Linz), Brigitte Vasicek (Co-Head of Time-Based Media at the University of Art and Design Linz) and Sam Auinger (composer and sound artist) will talk about what the University of Art and Design has come up with this year and what the Brucknerhaus has planned for the Klangwolke.
University of Art and Design Linz
Young, unconventional, provocative: THE WILD STATE is the motto of the Linz University of Art and Design for its campus activities at this year’s Ars Electronica Festival. In addition to the traditional Interface Cultures Exhibition as well as exhibitions from the degree programs Visual Communication, Fashion & Technology, and Design: Tech.Tex, there will be a major exhibition with various international partner universities. There will also be a large façade projection on the Hauptplatz, a symposium entitled “Unheimliche Freunde,” as well as an Internet flea market and a keynote address by U.S. artist Lynn Hershman Leeson, who was honored with an Honorary Mention at the 2020 Prix Ars Electronica.
Brucknerhaus
Due to COVID-19 the Linzer Klangwolke will return to its roots this year. Linz residents are cordially invited to play an active role in shaping this year’s event. For example by posting sounds and noises from the Linz city area on soundinglinz.at, or by placing their radios and loudspeakers in the open window on the evening of September 12 to let the transmission of the Klangwolke sounds soar into the sky above Linz.

A global journey mapping the ‘new‘ world
In Kepler’s Gardens
at JKU Campus, Linz
and 120 other locations worldwide
Ars Electronica 2020 is a journey to survey the “new” world and a journey through “Kepler’s Gardens”, which are located in Linz at the JKU Campus and at 120 other locations worldwide. In the course of this journey, we will discuss the important questions of our time, questions raised by the global corona crisis, and consider what we can and must do now. All the issues touched upon are marked by a general UNCERTAINTY and the question of how the crisis will shape and change us as individuals and as a society, us as HUMANITY. Two tensions in particular are in focus: AUTONOMY and DEMOCRACY as well as TECHNOLOGY and ECOLOGY.
