(Linz, July 11, 2023) Their passion for laboratory techniques, mathematics and new technologies means that it’s not just professional researchers who occasionally spend the night working on problems. On Friday, July 14, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to midnight, children and their parents or other accompanying persons are invited to get excited about science and research at the Museum of the Future. The program includes workshops, guided tours and Deep Space presentations. The “Night of the Family” is organized by the “OÖ Familienreferat” and “Linz Tourismus”, the Ars Electronica Center is one of a total of 14 Linz partner institutions participating. For an €18 flat fee (two adults plus children) or €12 (one adult plus children), all participating locations can be experienced with their respective offerings.
Program Highlights
Open workshop: Tardis Buddies / from 4 to 8 years old
Friday, July 14, 2023, 18:00 – 23:30
The microcosm is a place of diversity, where tardigrades, nematodes, wheel and slipper animals call the shots. Normally they can only be seen with a microscope, but at the “Night of the Family” they are brought before the lens with stencils, foils and paper. The goal: to illuminate and understand the tiny bodies. The title of the open workshop is the tardigrade Tardi, an abbreviation of the organism’s scientific name.
Bio-Chemical Show / from 6 years
Freitag, 14. Juli 2023, 18:00 – 23:30
Biochemistry and a laboratory atmosphere for beginners – that’s the promise of the workshop of the School of Education at JKU Linz. Physical and chemical reactions become a tangible phenomenon.
Energy Hacker Tour / from 13 years
Friday, 14 July 2023, 19:30 – 20:30 & Friday, 14 July 2023, 21:30 – 22:30
The Ars Electronica Center shines in its full glory not only thanks to artists and developers, but also thanks to its reliable team behind the scenes. As part of the “Energy Hacker Tour,” the building services crew provides insight into how energy resources are used and shows how the building’s electricity consumption can be reduced by nearly 50 percent. The highlight – in the truest sense of the word: visitors themselves control the colors of the Ars Electronica Center’s LED façade.
Deep Space: playrooms / for the whole family
Friday, 14 July 2023, 20:00 – 20:20 & Friday, 14 July 2023, 21:30 – 21:50
Deep Space 8K once again shows its potential: At the “Night of the Family”, it becomes a space for interactive artworks that call for participation. Students from the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences Campus Hagenberg and the Linz University of Art have developed games that call for full physical effort.
