(Linz, July 1, 2024) Just in time for the end of school, the Ars Electronica Center is launching a refreshing program for children aged six and up. Between July 16 and August 23, there will be weekly changing hands-on activities on the “timetable”. The variety of topics ranges from space exploration, robotics and programming languages through to sound experiments and adventures in the Kids’ Research Laboratory.
The summer vacation program is financed by the AK Upper Austria – children of AK members attend the workshops free of charge.

Trips into space with ESERO Austria
Hands up for Space! | from 9 to 11 years

The vacations begin with a premiere: the new workshop “Hands up for Space!” invites young engineers to get to grips with space technology; more precisely, with robotic arms that are controlled by astronauts. Together, participants aged between nine and eleven will build a bionic hand prosthesis from simple materials that comes very close to the original.
A micro:bit of Space | from 12 to 14 years

In the “A micro:bit of Space” workshop, children aged between 12 and 14 take their first steps in programming and discover how their newly acquired skills could be used for a real space mission. On the trail of the secrets of the universe, they experiment with a micro-controller that promises a journey through the world of technology and space travel.
For music enthusiasts
AnTon und Töne | from 9 to 11 years
TUE, Jul. 30, 2024, 14:00 – 16:00, WED Jul. 31, 10:00 – 12:00, THU Aug. 1, 14:00 – 16:00, WED Aug. 14, 10:00 – 12:00, THU Aug. 15, 14:00 – 16:00
The Upper Austrian composer Anton Bruckner would have celebrated his 200th birthday in 2024. To mark the anniversary, the Ars Electronica Center is dedicating an immersive audio journey to him with Being Anton and is inviting visitors into the virtual orchestra pit in Deep Space 8K. During the summer vacations, children between the ages of nine and eleven can enjoy the “AnTon und Töne” tour: together they will explore which sounds could have inspired Bruckner’s compositions. Open your ears, is the motto.
For the youngest
Komm‘ mit ins Kinderforschungslabor (Come along to the Kids’ Research Laboratory) | from 6 to 8 years
WED Jul. 24, 2024, 13:30 – 16:00, THU Jul. 25, 10:00 – 12:30, FRI Jul. 26, 13:30 – 16:00, WED Aug. 7, 10:00 – 12:30, THU Aug. 8, 10:00 – 12:30, FRI Aug 9, 13:30 – 16:00
No stone is left unturned in the Kids’ Research Laboratory – because this is where the little ones tinker and create. Together they put robots to the test, teach them tricks and challenge them to a competition on the robot playground. Finally, immersive 3D games invite them to try out colorful experiments in Deep Space 8K.
Im Moos viel los (Lots going on in the moss) | from 6 to 8 years
WED Jul. 24, 2024, 10:00 – 12:30, THU Jul. 25, 13:30 – 16:00, FRI Jul. 26,10:00 – 12:30
If you take out a magnifying glass or look through a microscope, a whole new world opens up: Paramecia, Ciliates, Stentor, and Tardigrades, these are the names of the small animals in the microcosm. The moss is particularly lively, where threadworms, larvae and bacteria throw themselves into the fray. With a trained eye, the workshop participants discover the paths of the lively microorganisms.
