St. Florian Monastery

A solo concert for clarinet (and bass clarinet) that works with the very special acoustics of the Marmorsaal at Sankt Florian, playing with its reverbs and multiplying the seemingly monodic instrument. It is a clarinet rich in technical features and timbres, which sometimes makes a timbral memory appear, borrowed from practices and memories of electronic musical culture. A meditation evoking many musical forms from the Gregorian to the style of composers such as Claudio Monteverdi and Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa.

Tenebrae (Latin for “darkness”) is a religious service of Western Christianity held during the three days preceding Easter, and characterized by gradual extinguishing of candles, and by a “strepitus” or “loud noise” taking place in total darkness near the end of the service. Tenebrae has been created for Ars Electronica Festival.

Short curatorial statement:
In this performance improvisation expands into a dialogical discourse with space and environment, thus establishing a direct relationship to those construction parameters that artificial intelligence uses in the formation of information as the outcome of algorithmic calculation processes.
