You Don’t Know Me

Cultural differences often lead to many misunderstandings. The installation deals with mixed cultural – misunderstanding phenomena and multiple-realities interpretations, opening a new world of contrasts and alternatives. In the boxes are videos with multiple meanings which could be easily (mis)interpreted differently based on different cultural backgrounds. Visitors are challenged to guess the meanings. If they are wrong, the installation responds with – You Don’t Know Me

 

Biographies:

Wang Shuyin: Undergraduate student at Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, Shantou University, majoring in Digital Media Art. In love with design and art, I found that true freedom means stricter self-discipline. I focused on understanding multidisciplinary knowledge and thinking about how to design not only for today but also for the society of the future.

Sun Xun: Undergraduate student at the Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, Shantou University, majoring in Digital Media Art. I have been climbing on a high wall called “Design,” which stands on the ground named “Art.” I see Design through Art and Art through Design; they pervade each other toward ultimate creation. If I had to define myself, I would say my soul is immersed in art and my mind in design. And the whole of me is dedicated to creating for the future.

Huang Rong: Undergraduate student at the Cheung Kong School of Art & Design at Shantou University, majoring in Digital Media Art. I found Electronic Art as a form of expression I can use to profile and shape my creative ideas. Compared with traditional art forms, electronic art has its unique charm and can resonate with people of today. It is a colorful and fascinating form of artistic expression which gives me the freedom to explore and touch the secret parts of my inner self.

Hu Ziping: Undergraduate student at Cheung Kong School of Art and Design, Shantou University, majoring in the Architectural Landscape. I love to express myself by using the language of dance and immerse myself in the fun of mathematical thinking. In my expression, I am trying to perceive creative thinking through my own efforts and learning opportunities. Hence, I choose to constantly explore, gaining deeper knowledge about the known and discovering the beautiful unknown.

Xiangdong Lu: A senior student of Shantou University, China, majoring in mechatronic engineering. Apart from mechatronic engineering, he is interested in Arduino circuit applications and has applied his knowledge to various interactive design projects. Lu is particularly familiar with Nonlinear Magnetic-electro Suspension System. He has solid mastery of optimal control theory and Linux system operations.
