We use AI every day, in our phones, online searches, and on social media, yet we rarely consider how the same technologies are used in other, more troubling ways. AI War Cloud Database reveals the hidden overlaps by showing how the same technologies behind everyday tools are also deployed for military purposes, for example, to automate decisions in warfare. It challenges us to consider what it means when tools designed for ease and efficiency are also used to kill.
The project maps AI systems used in war and traces their links to commercial tech such as iris scanners, chatbots, and mapping tools, along with the companies and governments behind them. Through interactive stories and visual networks, it helps users explore these connections in depth. By making this system visible, the project questions who controls AI, how it is used, and what values guide its development. It reminds us that how we build, manage, and use these systems matters, both as users and as societies. Neutrality is no longer an option.
