Being part of Ars Electronica, the Futurelab is proudly dedicated to its core value of bridging art, technology, and society. Within the vast network of Ars Electronica, we connect with artists and their thought-provoking projects, with the many visitors of the Ars Electronica Festival and Center, as well as with international partners from the fields of research, education, culture, and business.

Our Ties to the Bigger Picture:

Explore Ars Electronica’s endeavors around art, technology, and society, from artistic juncture to museum for the public.

Each year during the Ars Electronica Festival, we open up the lab to meet, discuss ideas and actions for the future with the public, artists, and partners from around the world.

This special unit of Ars Electronica puts educational and cultural programs, consulting, and media art into practice for Japan.

The Ars Electronica Festival is one of the fixtures for our work each year: At this world-renowned meeting point for media art, we collaborate with various partners to create unique performances, art installations, and platforms for the public as well as the artistic community. A special part of the Open Futurelab is our audience hit Futurelab Night at the Deep Space 8K where our members present their latest artistic explorations and technological innovations. In turn, we are inspired by the many commentaries and discussions with the broad audience, artists, and partners.

Another big part of the Futurelab’s contribution to Ars Electronica is our work for the museum of the future, the Ars Electronica Center. We developed and continue to update the unique Deep Space 8K here, providing ever-new applications from Cinematic Anatomy x Deep Space to Playing Anton. In addition, our team designs many exhibitions and show pieces for the Ars Electronica Center like Understanding AI and Life Ink. We also work with our colleagues from Ars Electronica Solutions who deploy proprietary innovations like the Deep Space technology all over the world, spanning from Mexico to Shanghai. Additionally, we support our colleagues from Ars Electronica Export by providing art installations and tools for exhibitions and presentations, conferences and workshops, performances and interventions all over the world.

The Ars Electronica Futurelab also serves as hub for Ars Electronica Japan, a special unit of Ars Electronica. Ars Electronica Japan implements educational and cultural initiatives, offers consulting services, and conducts advanced research in the realm of media art for Japan. This endeavor aims to cultivate a creative ecosystem that collaboratively shapes the future of society alongside citizens, Japanese innovators, educational institutions, and industries.
