You stand by the sea, look out to the horizon and have a little trouble imagining how far away it is. How many litres of water go into the bathtub at home again? And into the sea? Do you sometimes feel that way too? And then there’s the universe. For many people, these are unimaginable, elusive dimensions. Light years, stars and galaxies thousands or even millions of kilometres away, light years in diameter, gigantic volumes…
This evening we will try to make distances, sizes and volumes more tangible. We will show how distances and ranges are measured in the universe. What methods we have at our disposal. How such gigantic volumes are calculated. For comparison, we draw on all known sizes and show you many a size ratio. An evening for marvelling.
