Is there anything more relaxing than watching Bob Ross paint landscapes? What if you could paint beautiful natural sceneries yourself with a few digital brush strokes?
NVIDIA’s GauGAN application is able to create complex landscapes with just a few brush strokes. You draw simple colour blocks and select which textures should be assigned to these colour areas, such as sand, sea, mountains, forest, plants or rock. GauGAN uses so-called Generative Adversarial Networks to add photorealistic landscape features to the sketches – that is, the artificial intelligence actually generates new landscapes rather than just applying textures.
In this tutorial, Armin shows you what you can get out of this tool to create your own impressive, surreal and surprising digital paintings that rival Bob Ross. You can also try out GauGAN for yourself.
By the way, Infotrainer Johannes found a surprising bug in GauGAN, check out his video on YouTube.
