When looking to the future, it is also essential to look at the past, because without much reflection and awareness, even the best technologies and visions of the future cannot improve society fundamentally. And even though historical memorial sites may not have much to do with the Ars Electronica Center at first glance, the mission of cultural education is deeply rooted in both. To make the invisible visible, to tell stories, that is the task to which both Ars Electronica and Gudrun Blohberger have dedicated themselves.
As the educational director of the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial, Gudrun Blohberger not only has experience in cultural education, but after studying education in combination with the basics of psychology and psychosocial practice, she has also worked on projects at memorial sites and in regional development. In an interview with Sabine Leidlmair, she talks about her work in this complex field and why storytelling is so important to get an understanding of the past.
