By the end of the century, Alpine glaciers may lose 91% of their surface and 94% of their mass, potentially leaving Austria ice-free. Schmilz, schmilz, Baby! by Aggro Climate invites citizens to reimagine these landscapes. Join the dialogue, participate in an AI-driven competition and be part of a transformation that shapes the post-glacial future with your most interesting ideas.
Melt This!
Schmilz, schmilz, Baby! is a thought-provoking campaign on glacier retreat by the activist artist group Aggro Climate. It advocates an attitude of radical acceptance of our self-induced fate concerning the end of the ice age, as it is estimated that Alpine glaciers will lose 91% of their surface area and 94% of their mass by the end of the century. Together with citizens, Aggro Climate investigates how the land of Austria’s biggest glacier Pasterze can be democratically reimagined by future generations following the melt.
A campaign video conveys arguments to citizens about the glacier melt, bittersweetly inviting them to participate in a competition, using generative AI applications to submit their most interesting ideas for post-glacial Pasterze. The underlying message of Aggro Climate is that, rather than inciting panic during climate change, we should empower individuals from all walks of life to engage in a transformational dialogue about our future environments.
