Co-Envisioning Mobility Infrastructures

The challenges facing cities around the globe are complex and multidisciplinary by nature. Attempting to solve them in conventional linear ways is insufficient for addressing these manifold human-environment relationships that are at the heart of these challenges. Alternative approaches are necessary.

We are aligning with the urban living labs idea; in this virtual session focusing on future inclusive living and the meaning of mobility and movability.

We are aiming to invite you to think outside the box and crowdsource speculative design ideas for services as well as products or infrastructure.
For example, moovel lab, a subsidiary of Daimler-Benz, designed self-transport using a one-man capsule. Other speculative services and products that make a name for themselves include a truck that sows clouds (a response to climatic changes in the atmosphere) or a personal augmentation spa as a therapy center for the exhausted individualist – not without irony. The Tellart design collective brings self-driving cars with emotional intelligence or a coffee machine that encourages contact among strangers into play. In a virtual world, although miles away, we can lay down near each other via telematic as in the artwork of Paul Sermon “Telematic Dreaming”. Astral-projections, holograms, tele-transportations can also be part of a virtual or of an augmented world and change the perception of the distance, travel and mobility.

We may imagine the re-use of infrastructure which was formerly dedicated to cars, such as petrol stations, parking lots.

In this virtual speculative design session we are aiming to discover OUR dreams!

We are inviting to jointly envision future scenarios. A positive future, which is not reflecting our fears or scary visions, but our most daring dreams.

We are approaching this in a threefold setting:

  • Introduction by Eveline Wandl-Vogt
„disrupting conventional mindsets by strong visions of multiple futures“
  • Presentation of the Austrian ecosystem “Community Creates Mobility”
inclusive the task force ”Art and Mobility” by Claudia Falkinger and Peter Zehetbauer
  • An inspiring lightning talk by Jeffrey Schnapp (Harvard/US, Piaggo Fast Forward): “The Future of Mobility is… Walking”
  • A methodological journey on exponential strategies, hyperacceleration and mobility with Niki Ernst
  • Opening up the speculative design work by Aleyda Rocha
  • The core of the session will be an envisioning interaction, where participants are invited to co-design in a digital way their vision of the future of mobility, orchestrated under our guidance.
  • Conclusion and Closing
