(Linz, 29.7.2020) Ars Electronica 2020 will take place as a journey around the world from September 9 to 13—not in spite of Corona, but because of it. For the first time, the festival for art, technology and society is inviting visitors not only to Linz but to 120 destinations around the globe. On the program is nothing less than a survey of the ‘new’ world, which revolves around social, ecological, technological and political visions for our life after—or with—Corona. From Tokyo to Johannesburg to L.A., artists, scientists, developers and activists invite us to explore our future. Hundreds of exhibitions, lectures, talks and workshops will be offered, initially targeted at the local audience in each area—”Stay Home, Stay Safe.” Via streams, chats, blogs, social media and Mozilla Hubs, Ars Electronica is combining all this into an online festival that, despite the pandemic, aims to be a unique forum for people from all over the world.
Ars Electronica Home Delivery: Inside Festival!
What’s on the program for this “Festival of 120” is now the subject of separate episodes of “Ars Electronica Home Delivery.” With the motto “Inside Festival,” Ars Electronica curators and artists will host weekly presentations of festival destinations around the world, along with their respective hosts and their visions of the future. Veronika Liebl (Director of European Cooperation, Ars Electronica) and Kristina Maurer (Senior Producer European Cooperation) will kick things off with the STARTS Initiative and the STARTS Gardens. Gisa Schosswohl (Project Lead at Re-FREAM) will discuss the Linz “Re-FREAM Garden” and its critical view of the fashion industry, while Camille Baker (University for Creative Arts) presents the “Garden of Delights” inspired by Hieronymus Bosch and designed by several British universities and art and cultural institutions.

“Re-FREAM” explores the interaction between fashion, design, science, crafts and technology and aims to create a space for joint creation and development. It promotes experimental projects that give artists, scientists and technologists the opportunity to come together in the search for socially and ecologically sustainable solutions. Within the framework of Ars Electronica, a special “Re-FREAM Garden” will be created in which ten best-practice examples will demonstrate the creative potential embedded in the interaction of art, technology, craftsmanship and science.
The “Garden of Delights” in London, York, Manchester, Wolverhampton and Dundee, United Kingdom
Inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights by the Dutch Renaissance painter Hieronymus Bosch and the metathemes of the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival, the British “Garden of Delights” celebrates the collaboration of art, technology and science. The focus is on projects submitted to this year’s STARTS Prize of the European Commission or created in the context of artists’ residencies. The Garden of Delights is organized and designed by the University for Creative Arts, York Mediale, Future Everything, the University of Wolverhampton, Art in Flux and the NEoN Digital Arts Festival.

“Ars Electronica Home Delivery” is a weekly program that includes guided tours of Ars Electronica exhibitions, excursions to Ars Electronica Labs, visits to the Machine Learning Studio, concerts with real-time visualizations, deep space LIVE sessions, workshops with engineers and talks with artists and scientists from around the world. None of this is recorded, most of it is interactive and all of it is LIVE. Ars Electronica Home Delivery aims to make the artistic and scientific debate about the future accessible to the broadest possible audience.
