(Linz, November 16, 2020) Follow an art-historical investigation around the winged altar of the mysterious Master of Mondsee, discover exciting details in Gustav Klimt’s painting “The Kiss” via a gigapixel image, and learn what prompted Iranian videographer Yazdan Zand to move his center of life and work to Linz. Once again this week, Ars Electronica Home Delivery will be delivering fascinating works from the fields of art, technology and society directly into the living room, kitchen, office, children’s room or classroom. Deep Space: Gustav Klimt’s ” The Kiss” as a Gigapixel Image – a Cooperation of Google Arts & Culture and the Belvedere in Vienna

“The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt is the most important work of the Viennese Art Nouveau painter and has been one of the crowd pullers in the Vienna Belvedere for quite some time. Using the Art Camera technology developed by Google Arts & Culture, Klimt’s painting can now be viewed in detail in gigapixel resolution. In this video, shot at the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival, Marzia Niccolai of Google Arts & Culture provides an insight into the Art Camera technology and its fields of application. Belvedere curator Franz Smola will also talk about the art historical significance of the painting.
Deep Space LIVE: The Altar of the Master of Mondsee

At the center of Deep Space LIVE this time is the winged altar of the Master of Mondsee, whose images were scattered to the winds after the dissolution of the Mondsee monastery. Starting at 4:45 p.m., art historian Dr. Lothar Schultes from the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum and historian and archivist Dr. Georg Heilingsetzer will embark on an art-historical investigation of this altar and present high-resolution gigapixel images of the altar paintings still preserved today. Not only do they reveal some surprises, but they also show details that would remain hidden to the eye in normal viewing. This time Deep Space LIVE is also a keynote lecture of the Gesellschaft für Landeskunde und Denkmalpflege OÖ.
At home with… Yazdan Zand

The Home Delivery series ” At Home With…” brings artists from the Ars Electronica environment into the limelight and asks about their background, their work and their inspirations. This issue focuses on Iranian videographer and filmmaker Yazdan Zand, who met Gerfried Stocker, Ars Electronica’s Artistic Director, at a presentation in Tehran in 2015. Just one year later, Yazdan Zand began studying time-based media at the Linz Art University. In 2018, he produced a short documentary about the Ars Electronica Festival for a television station, and since 2019 he’s already been part of the Ars Electronica Team as a video producer.
