(Linz, 7.9.2021) For five days, from 8 to 12 September 2021, the University of Art and Design Linz will once again present inspiring ideas from young media artists at this year’s Ars Electronica. With a variety of student projects, exhibitions, performances, workshops and lab settings, “LOOPS OF WISDOM” puts the spotlight on thinking about a changing world.

With “LOOPS OF WISDOM” students and teachers at the University of Art and Design Linz offer a possible guide to action on a topic more relevant than ever: the future of our planet. A well thought out set of inspiring exhibitions, presentations, performances, interventions, workshops and lab settings as well as a discursive platform. Exhibition venues are the two university buildings at Hauptplatz 6 and 8, the “Strafsachengalerie” and the “splace am Hauptplatz”.

By means of playful and experimental access, the exhibition questions how knowledge is generated and what this has to do with wisdom. The focus is on technical thinking and how it determines our lives, describes them, measures them, makes them comparable, standardizes and controls them.

“Interface Cultures”, “Time-based and Interactive Media Arts”, “Fashion & Technology”, “Art Education”, “Design: Tech.Tex”, “Media Design”, “Visual Communication”, “Industrial Design”, “Architecture” and “space&designstrategies” as well as the exhibition of the partner university Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK, Interaction Design Department) all show creative and inspiring works for a sustainable world. Students and teachers present actions, thoughts and ideas based on their own experimentation.

The focus is on the interplay of knowledge and wisdom and the realization that wisdom does not result from thinking alone, but requires action and appropriate behavior. The application of knowledge, questioning and doubting, and the willingness to learn from it. Even in artistic and academic practice, the loops of wisdom are by no means closed, but require openness to the future. “LOOPS OF WISDOM” is therefore a winding path that is never recognizable in its entirety.
