(Linz, April 24, 2024) Since the 2022/23 school year, the lower secondary school curricula have included a new subject: “Digital Basic Education” (Digitale Grundbildung). The Ars Electronica Center has responded with an adapted guided tour and workshop program for school classes – which is now being expanded with partners such as iDEAS:lab, Linz AG and AK Oberösterreich (chamber of labour Upper Austria).
The range of topics, guided tours, workshops and multi-part combination packages enables students to explore the societal, social and ethical aspects of digital transformation together with their teachers – and discuss them with experts.
A program overview
Full Package – Digital Basic Education
from the 5th grade
The „Full Package – Digital Basic Education“ consists of 2-3 dates on site, on which three guided tours, two workshops, a presentation in Deep Space 8K and a discussion round are on the program. The program focuses on the topics of artificial intelligence, climate and environment as well as neurobionics. What’s special: The price of 25 euros per participant includes an annual pass for the Ars Electronica Center.
Guided Tours followed by Workshops
from the 5th grade
Teachers who want to spend two exciting hours at the Ars Electronica Center with their classes to immerse themselves in a new topic can take advantage of the program duo of themed tour and “add-on” for 7 euros per person.
The tour promises children from the 5th grade upwards a journey through the exhibition areas of the Ars Electronica Center before they get to try things out for themselves and reflect on them. Students train self-driving model cars, try out how brain waves can be connected to a computer or playfully explore alternative forms of energy and mobility in Deep Space 8K.
The following packages are available, including a concluding discussion round:
- Guided tour “AI & You” with workshop add-on “Machine Learning”
- Guided tour: “PLANet B?” with educational 3D game in Deep Space 8K on the problem of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Guided tour: “From the glass to the black box” with workshop add-on “BCI – Brain Computer Interface”
Workshops with iDEAS:lab
from the 7th or 9th grade
New in the program portfolio: Three workshops with the iDEAS:lab of Paris Lodron University (Salzburg). In individual sessions of one to two hours, participants will work out how AI-based analyses of social media messages are involved in urban planning, disaster management and migration research, how AI tools can be used responsibly and what it means to act confidently and safely in the digital world. The cost is 10 euros per ticket per class with a maximum of 25 participants.
Fake News and Manipulation – AK Dialogue meets Ars Electronica Center
7th to 13th grade
Classes that opt for the combined package of “AK-Dialogue: #FakeNews” and a guided tour of the Ars Electronica Center (e.g. on the topic of AI), train their own eye for misinformation spread by the media, expose deep fakes and question the rapid developments in technological progress. Cost: Five euros per participant.
All guided tours can be booked individually for classes – the ticket costs five euros per student. Reservation of the offers under 0732.7272.0 or center@ars.electronica.art.
