- More about the nextcomic Festival
(Linz, March 20, 2025) The nextcomic Festival starts tomorrow – and the Ars Electronica Center is once again taking part. Through April 27, 2025, students from the MKD – Master School of Communication Design Linz will be presenting their latest works in the foyer and on the façade. A highlight: On March 26, starting at 6 p.m., the comic artists will provide fascinating insights into their work and inspirations in Deep Space 8K. Admission is free.
Under the motto “FORTIFY – MKD x nextcomic 2025”, the graphic worlds are dedicated to the overarching question What makes you strong? The comics shown are realized in a flat illustration style and are characterized by geometric shapes, bright colors and clear lines. Together, they create a colorful square mosaic in the exhibition that combines comics, text and AR. The exhibition continues in the OK (Offenes Kulturhaus).
Comic Art in Deep Space 8K
On Wednesday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m., comic fans will be drawn to Deep Space 8K, where the MKD artists will present their contributions on the 16×9 meter projection screen – stories that take on the challenges of our time, search for creative solutions and tell of moments full of joy that give new energy. Finally, the students invite you to explore the exhibition together in the foyer of the Ars Electronica Center.
Luminous Entities on the Façade
It’s not just the foyer and Deep Space 8K that will come to life: The Luminous Entities project – also by MKD students – will be on view on the façade of the Ars Electronica Center from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily through March 31. From April 1 through April 27, the digital creatures will dance across the façade daily from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.
MKD – Master School of Communication Design
The MKD – Master School of Communication Design is a one-year in-depth education in graphic and communication design at the HTL1 Bau und Design in Linz. Students work to enhance their own design skills and explore their abilities, while at the same time learning about teamwork and technical processes. Independent, process-oriented work in project teams characterizes the year at the master school.
The nextcomic Festival
Since 2009, the nextcomic festival has been held annually in Linz and other locations in Upper Austria. It is the only comic festival in Austria and one of the most important in the German-speaking world. In 2025, visitors can expect a diverse program around the theme “What makes you strong? Developing Resilience with Comics.” The Ars Electronica Center is once again on board as a long-standing partner.
