New Compositions World Debut
Sound of Taiwan: Today’s creations become tomorrow’s cultural assets! Diverse styles showcase Taiwanese creativity. The Sound of Taiwan concert was a world premiere of two locally made compositions: Gordon Chin’s Piano Concerto No.1 and Nan-Chang Chien’s Symphony No. 4. The two compositions were debuted with: conductors Günther Herbig and Wen-Pin Chien and performed by pianist Chia-Hui Lu along-side the NSO. The concert is a milestone achievement in the continued development of Taiwan culture.

Yu-Chiou Tchen (TW): Excutive Producer
Yu-Chiou Tchen is an accomplished leader, civil servant, pianist, author, educator, and avid promoter of Taiwan art and culture. Ms. Tchen is a member of the French Legion of Honour, holding 2 titles as a Chavalier and 1 as an Officeier. She is the current Chairwoman of the Taiwan Public Television Service Foundation. She served as the Taiwan Cultural Minister, Chairwoman of the Taiwan National Concert Hall, and the Dean of the Taiwan National Normal University, among other important posts.

Gordon Chin (TW): Composer Gordon Chin is a composer and faculty member of NTNU. His works have been presented in international festivals, performed by global ensembles and institutions, and featured in two albums. He is a DMA Eastman School of Music graduate and a 20th Taiwan National Award for Arts recipient.
Nan-Chang Chien (TW): Composer:
Nan-Chang Chien is a Music Professor at Taipei University of the Arts since 1989. He received his artistic diploma in Munich, Germany. He has written many compositions and is highly praised. He won “The Best Composer of the Golden Songs” in 1997, 1998, and 2002.

Günther Herbig (DE) is a world distinguished conductor. Since 1972, he has led numerous notable orchestras from Europe, to America, to Asia. He was the General Music Director of the Dresden Philharmonic and the Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin (1977-83) and Music Director of the Detroit and Toronto Symphony Orchestra (1984-94). He has recorded over 120 works and is the current Conductor Laureate of the Taiwan Philharmonic.
Chien Wen-Pin (TW): Conductor
Chien Wen-Pin is the General and Artistic Director of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Germany, he served as the Kapellmeister for 22 years. He was also the Music Director of the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra (2001-07) and a 2014 winner of the “National Award for Arts”.

Chia-Hui Lu (TW): Producer/Art Director/ Director/Screenwriter/ Sound Designer/Visual Designer/Pianist
Chia-Hui Lu is a passionate artist and an active participant in art world. She is a pioneer and award winning cross art creator, a composer, a music director, and a renowned concert pianist. As the Chairwoman of the Egret Foundation, Ms. Lu continues on the organization’s 27 years tradition in promoting music and culture in Taiwan. Ms. Lu is a firm believer in stepping out of one’s comfort zone to cooperate and learn from experts in varying fields across continents to innovate and create art.

The Taiwan Philharmonic (TW) was Founded in 1986 and is also known as the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO). Having regular global performances, it has been hailed as one of the best orchestras in Asia. Under the leadership of artistic advisor Jun Märkl since August 2021, the NSO aspires to resonate throughout the world as the cultural ambassador of Taiwan.
The Spring Foundation (TW) founded in 1999, is devoted to artistic creativity, research and education through its involvement with Taiwan modern and contemporary arts and culture. It aims to consolidate local resources with international exchanges to expand our cultural breadth.
The Sheu’s Culture and Education Memorial Foundation (TW) was founded in 1998 by the late Central Bank Governor, Yuan-Dong Sheu and his wife with the goal to further promote their profound love of music and the arts. The Voices of Taiwan project was impactful in its advocacy of creative development.
