The Hidden Gems
Taiwan stands out from bodies of water like a hidden emerald, rich and brilliant like a diamond. Once it was called Formosa by the Portuguese (1542), meaning beautiful island. Taiwan’s natural and cultural evolution developed over a short period of time. Through Eastern, Western, and Austronesian multi-cultural influences and hardship, and through enduring extreme natural elements; Taiwanese tenacity, flexibility, courageousness, grit, and spirited enthusiasm are formed.
Chia-Hui Lu is a passionate artist and an active participant in art world. She is a pioneer and award winning cross art creator, a composer, a music director, and a renowned concert pianist. As the Chairwoman of the Egret Foundation, Ms. Lu continues on the organization’s 27 year tradition in promoting music and culture in Taiwan. Ms. Lu is a firm believer in stepping out of one’s comfort zone to cooperate and learn from experts in varying fields across continents to innovate and create art.
Yu-Chiou Tchen is an accomplished leader, civil servant, pianist, author, educator, and avid promoter of Taiwan art and culture. Ms. Tchen is a member of the French Legion of Honour, holding 2 titles as a Chavalier and 1 as an Officeier. She is the current Chairwoman of the Taiwan Public Television Service Foundation. She served as the Taiwan Cultural Minister, Chairwoman of the Taiwan National Concert Hall, and the Dean of the Taiwan National Normal University, among other important posts.
