pantea and Momo Zeli (IR): This mixtape represents the progress of Everyday, an artistic research project led by pantea and momo zeli. The project aims to foreground the unheard sounds of everyday cultures; sounds which are less acknowledged and explored in the creative musical heritage, sounds which embody local knowledge, cultural practices of the vernacular, and ecologies – many of which were not made for musical purposes in the first place. Through the project recordings are being highlighted that denote a blurred line between everyday sounds and musicality.
We propose this process helps preserve these sounds as a part of Iranian heritage and highlights their underrepresented importance within Iranian culture and history. We seek to explore the in-between spaces of 1) the everyday and heritage, 2) functionality and aesthetics, 3) musicality and noise, and 4) history and contemporary.

Tehran Soundscapes w/ Vedad Famourzadeh – Gates of Tehran, Intermezzos: This one-hour radio program is a compilation of some of the soundscapes of Tehran first exhibited as part of Days of Experimental Sounds in December 2018 at Silent Green Kulturquartier Berlin organized by House No.4. The title of the project was Gates of Tehran, and the project was a collection of field recordings of locations in Tehran’s old gates which are abolished and do not exist anymore. The project was about the non-places, about what lacks rather than the presence of any sound-marks, or any sonic memory of Tehran. One can hardly identify these places comparing to any other places in Tehran. These soundscapes are from Pamenar, Bazaar gate, Bank Melli Bazaar, Baab Homayoun, Imam Khomeini Square, Hor Square, Pastor Square, Raazi Square, Qazvin square. These soundscapes are intersected by Intermezzos in Memory of Zaven Hakopian, compositions for violin and alto commissioned by Ag Galerie, first performed by Babak Kouhestani and Farmehr Beyglou as part of exhibition Club 29 Curated by Elham Puriyamehr in June 2018. These intermezzos focus more on texture and timbre by referencing Shirinkari techniques in Ruhowzi music – loose glissandos and vibratos – and through harmonic expansion of Dastgah-e Homayoun, I attempt to create a léger affectueux meditative space. These intermezzos are dedicated to the memory of Zaven Hakopian, eminent Iranian ethnomusicologist.
Vedad Famourzadeh (IR): Vedad Famourzadeh is a qualified vibro-acoustic engineer from Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM, Paris) and Sharif University of Technology (Tehran), and former PhD candidate at University of Technology, Sydney, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. he is now lecturer of Audio Technology at Islamic Azad University Central Tehran Branch, Faculty of Arts & Architecture. As sound artist, he is exploring the integration of sound art and electronic music with different soundscapes and diverse musical traditions of Iran.
