Glatte Oberflächen und verglaste Fassaden repräsentieren die Herausforderungen der modernistischen Architektur. Architektur ohne Ornamente oder, wie von Beatriz Colomina definiert, „X-Ray“ Architecture steht heute vor den Herausforderungen des Postanthropozäns. Es handelt sich um Gebäude, die nicht von Menschen bewohnt werden, sondern von den Maschinen; die gebaut wurden, um zu produzieren, zu teilen, neu zu organisieren oder zu lagern – Architektur ohne Tageslicht, Fassaden ohne Fenster, Etagen ohne Treppen. Wie reagieren ArchitektInnen auf die neuen Herausforderungen dieser neuen Ära? Die Ausstellung präsentiert bereits abgelehnte Ornamente als Teil mehrerer Projekte, die für oder von Maschinen entworfen wurden.
Die Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prag (UMPRUM) wurde 1885 gegründet. Seit ihrem Bestehen gehörte sie zu den besten Bildungseinrichtungen des Landes. Sie verfügt über eine Reihe erfolgreicher AbsolventInnen, die sich zu angesehenen Fachleuten entwickelt haben und über die Grenzen der Tschechischen Republik hinaus Anerkennung finden. Die Akademie gliedert sich in die Fachbereiche Architektur, Design, Bildende Kunst, Angewandte Kunst, Grafik, Kunsttheorie sowie -geschichte. Jede Abteilung ist entsprechend ihrem Fachgebiet in Studios unterteilt. Die LeiterInnen der Studios sind führende Persönlichkeiten der tschechischen Kunstszene.
Die Akademie reagiert auf die Bedürfnisse des Marktes und auf neue Interessen der zukünftigen Studierenden, so dass im Semester 2018/2019 zwei neue Studios eröffnet wurden: Im Frühjahr 2018 eröffnete ein Programm für GastkünstlerInnen, in dem UMPRUM jedes Semester einen anerkannten Künstler oder eine anerkannte Künstlerin aus dem Ausland zur Zusammenarbeit mit den Studierenden einlädt. Im Winter 2018 wurde das Studio für Fotografie II als Teil der Grafikabteilung eröffnet und bietet Raum für eine neue Generation von Talenten, die nach Innovation innerhalb der visuellen Welt strebt. Die Akademie bietet derzeit ca. 600 Studierenden 25 Studios in 6 Abteilungen. Zweimal im Jahr öffnet die gesamte Akademie ihre Pforten, um unter dem Titel „Artsemestr“ Arbeiten der Studierenden zu präsentieren. Jedes Jahr organisiert die Akademie über 15 Ausstellungen, von denen die Hälfte im Ausland gezeigt wird. UMPRUM wurde 2018 in das prestigeträchtige Register QS World University Rankings aufgenommen und reiht sich unter die besten Universitäten der Welt zwischen Platz 51. und 100. nebst Instiutionen wie der Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs (ENSAD) in Paris, amerikanischen Hochschulen wie der Cornell University und der Cranbrook Academy of Art, sowie der Sheffield Hallam University und der Kingston University in Großbritannien.

Biografien:
Prof. ak. arch. Imrich Vaško leads the Studio Architecture III at the AAAD in Prague. Following completion of a Fulbright Scholarship at Yale University in 1991, he set up the Laboratory of Architecture at the VŠVU. In 1998, he was a guest professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. He has lectured at Columbia University, the Pratt Institute, Rice University, Cornell University and CCNY in the US, and at Universität für angewandte Kunst and Akademie der bildenden Kunst in Vienna. His areas of interest include conceptual and visionary architecture, urbanism, and installations. He co-authored the joint exposition by the Czech and Slovak Republics at the 7th Venice Biennale (2000).
MgA. Shota Tsikoliya, Ph.D, M.Sc. is an architect, researcher and assistant professor at the AAAD in Prague and a studio leader at ARCHIP. He graduated from the AAAD in Prague and at the Institute of Computational Design University of Stuttgart. He has participated in and co-organized several workshops focused on emergent architecture and innovative technologies. He has worked in architecture offices in Prague and Berlin, and is a co-founding partner of the architecture studio COLLARCH.
MgA. David Kovařík is an architect at Franz & Sue in Vienna and a PhD student at the AAAD in Prague. He has previously worked on award-winning projects and competitions at AllesWirdGut and Feld72. The topic of his doctoral project is the relationship between digital tools and materiality in architecture.
Artists:
Adam Angelov (CZ) studies masters degree program in studio A3, and he is in second year of that study. There he worked on several projects but none of them was awarded. His main interest is in green and sustainable architecture.
Frida Block (SWE) is a second year bachelor architecture student who just finished one exchange semester at UMPRUM in studio Architecture III. In her home country Sweden, she studies at Umeå School of Architecture.
Petra Garajová (SVK) studies follow-up master’s course of architecture in studio A3 of AAAD in Prague after her previous studies at AFAD in Bratislava. She participated the Erasmus exchange program at ESNA in France. Nowadays, she is part of the team Prusa Lab research in Prague.
Ivan Olontsev (KZ) studies Masters degree of architecture in studio A3 of AAAD in Prague. He previously completed erasmus exchange semester at Studio Gregg Lynn at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna
Markéta Osifová (CZ) studies architecture in studio A3 of AAAD in Prague. She is in the first year and she currently deals with material research.
Shervin Peyghambari (IRN) got his bachelor’s degree from Azad University, Iran. He’s now studying Master’s degree at Academy of Art, Architecture and Desing in Prague. He previously worked on two award winning projects in Iran.
Tomáš Růžička (CZ) studies master program in studio of design at AAAD in Prague. He previously completed exchange semester at in studio Architecture III at AAAD.
Tamara Salajová (CZ) studies master degree in architecture studio A3 at the AAAD in Prague. Her winnig proposal and output from Folded topologies workshop was realized as a part of Bienalle of experimental architecture event in Jaroslav Fragner gallery in Prague. She was also a finalist of a pavilion student competition for residential building „Čerešně“ run by ITB development.
Petra Sochůrková (CZ) studies Masters degree of architecture in studio A3 on AAAD in Prague. She was pacticipating on A3 studio exhibition on Milano Design Week with project called Neural network crystals. She participated on Tallin Vision Competition with project Differential growth platforms. Also she creates collections of 3D printed jewellery.
Daniel Sviták (CZ) studies Masters degree of architecture in studio A3 of AAAD in Prague. There he worked on project Solifuge city, which was awarded with the dean´s prize. He is also working for Andrle Architekti.
Záviš Unzeitig (CZ) is currently a Master’s degree student at the AAAD in Prague and works as a designer at DID studio in Prague.He received his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec. The topic of his bachelor project was kinetic and responsive systems in design and architecture.The project was awarded first place in the vision category at the global Inspireli Awards.
Adam Varga (SVK) is a newcomer to the Studio of Architecture III at the AAAD in Prague, studying Master’s degree in architecture. He participated in a research project called Material Moods, led by David Kovarik.
