I believe that the first step of a new university is to teach the basic concepts of the various subdisciplines so that the next step is to be able to draw links and connections from what has been learned. I think it is important to have professors and lecturers who teach you to build on existing research, but also support experimental approaches and out of the box thinking. Also, labs and spaces should be created where interdisciplinary exchange is encouraged, even away from teaching and maybe even publicly for everyone to join.
