The digital preservation of cultural heritage constantly challenges researchers at the Ars Electronica Futurelab. Working with precious heritage requires intuition and patience. Using the non-contact process of photogrammetry, researchers of the Ars Electronica Futurelab headed by Stefan Mittlböck-Jungwirth-Fohringer carefully transformed one of the Schaunberg tombs from the collegiate church of Wilhering into a virtual object in order to turn it into an immersive 3D cultural experience for Deep Space 8K. The colossal format creates insights into high-resolved details that can no longer be perceived in their original form and thus are made accessible to scientists from all parts of the world. Andreas Bauer, Director of the Ars Electronica Center, presents the lab’s recent digitization project together with Abbot Reinhold Dessl and Dr. Lothar Schultes live from the Deep Space 8K.
