How can art, technology and creativity help us overcome crises and design a positive future? Find new ideas and inspiration at the Futurelab Day! Under the slogan “Creative Resilience for a Planet B,” the Ars Electronica Futurelab invites you to an all-day program on September 8th: With discussions, workshops, a brand-new exhibition as well as artistic performances and world premieres in Deep Space 8K, we want to get to the bottom of many important questions about the future together!

Morning Inspirations

Morning Inspirations features everyone: members of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, its partners, as well as the community – ranging from renowned experts to members of the public as well as Festival University students, enriching the discussion with fresh perspectives from around the world.
The main question: Confronted with so many crises, how can resilience be transformed from a personal responsibility into a social phenomenon? And how can art, creativity and technology help our society to achieve this goal? Join our discussion and be inspired by how creativity can help in overcoming challenges and actively shape a positive future!

Afternoon Experiences

With workshops, panels and immersive experiences in Deep Space 8K, the Ars Electronica Futurelab offers another space to discover a broad range of new perspectives in the afternoon of the Futurelab Day.

What might the Work of the Future look like and how will it change our lives? What might mobility mean in the future and what will it take to change course? Explore the Humanity of the Future together with us, trying to get a grasp of who we are and need to be for a “planet B”. In specially designed workshops, these and many other important questions will be discussed together. Get your Survival Guide for the Future!

Dataspace for instance, focuses on the global impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine and uses the unique infrastructure of Deep Space 8K to develop a Media of the Future and show how art and journalism can help in pioneering new approaches to crisis communication.
Try your hand at drawing and writing with living microorganisms in the Bio Ink Experience or leave light trails with flying drones and Space Ink. Get inspired by the life data of creative minds at the brand new Life Ink exhibition. Marvel at the latest findings from the CoBot research project, which focuses on the conditions for successful collaboration between humans and robots. Or be simply whisked away to a thought experiment in finitude to develop a whole new relationship to the future with the Re-writing the Script workshop.

From biotechnology to creative artificial intelligence to Life Ink: Ars Electronica Futurelab researchers and artists invite you on a Guided Tour of their visions and ideas for the future, the black box of future technologies and their potential implications.

Night Performances

In the virtual environment of Deep Space 8K, the Night Performances in the evening of the Futurelab Day will ensure an unforgettable conclusion to the second Festival day. With a concentrated load of data, creativity and innovation, breathtaking visuals and audiovisual performances provide even more creative sparks. From the lab’s latest work to captivating artistic performances including world-class piano as well as dance, we welcome you to the Futurelab Day’s Night Performances in the virtual pop-up world Welcome to Planet B! If you don’t feel like leaving the vibrant Festival atmosphere at the Johannes Kepler University campus behind, KEPLER’S GARDENS also offers plenty of other program highlights that you won’t want to skip – before you take streetcar lines 1 or 2 to the Ars Electronica Center to get to Deep Space 8K in time for the Night Performances.

These include the panel discussion Collaborative Ecosystems for a Sustainable World, from 15:30 to 16:20 on the Festival University Stage, the workshop Dive into Plastic, from 16:00 to 17:30 in the Transformation Lounge and LULLABY for MARIUPOL – ConcertOpera Aperta from 17:30 to 18:30 in the Circus of Knowledge. – Get inspired by the Ars Electronica Festival program.
