Memories for Futures is a multi-modal media arts installation designed to foster care and discussion about rural life’s future. Local stories, places and impressions from the village of Azusakawachi in the Japanese prefecture of Shiga are linked here to provide insights into the lives of the inhabitants and their very personal history.

The Art Thinking Forum in Tokyo is a community event to transform future business and economic activities creatively. In 2023, leading Japanese artists, innovators, businesspeople, and Ars Electronica members came together to discuss future visions and Art Thinking for society and corporate endeavors.
With the Art Thinking School at Hakuhodo’s University of Creativity, Ars Electronica artists and researchers presented Inspiration Talks as well as a new workshop concept for companies to create tangible visions of the future.
How can art create meaning from data? The Ars Electronica Futurelab, in collaboration with Toyota Coniq Alpha in Japan, is envisioning “Data Art & Science,” a new interdisciplinary field that incorporates artistic perspectives on future transformations based on data science.
The talk and workshop event Future Mobility Lounge in Yokohama, Japan, focused on future mobility and sustainability. Visitors from elementary school children to adults were invited to find inspiration with artistic and cultural input and conceptualize new mobility ideas involving Robot Spot.
The Matsudo International Science Art Festival is a yearly celebration that takes place in the beautiful city of Matsudo in Japan. In 2022, the theme of the festival was “Circular Creativity”, exploring how we can all respectfully coexist with nature and people of different backgrounds on our one and only planet, Earth.
In 2021, the International Science Art Festival in Matsudo was dedicated to the theme “OPEN CITY – Inspirational City.” The festival aimed to create an ecosystem where people can connect and inspire each other to take on new challenges.
Since 2014, Hakuhodo and Ars Electronica have collaborated in its joint project Future Catalysts. To further expand its activities, the two institutions have launched a mission driven, innovation community named “ARS ELECTRONICA TOKYO Initiative (AETI).”
