When one thinks of archaeology, one usually has images of classic archaeological excavation sites in mind. Nowadays, however, there are already some methods that go beyond the typical excavation. Whether taking “X-ray images” of the ground using georadar, recognizing terrain features using drones or documenting by means of 3D laser scans – all of this is currently being used in the area of the Danube Limes in Upper Austria, among other places.
