In this lecture by Dr Manuela Macedonia you will learn in a very simple and straightforward explanation how the brain is structured and how it processes and stores information that comes from the sensory organs. In addition, the brain research expert will explain the networks that control the sense of touch and movement, and the most important chemical neurotransmitters – the networks that are responsible for language, memory and feelings. This is the introductory lecture for everyone who wants to learn more about the brain!
The lecture series “Gehirn für Alle” (“Brain for Everyone”) is dedicated to current scientific findings and methods of brain research. Dr Manuela Macedonia is a scientist at the Max Planck Institute Leipzig for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences and works in the research group “Neuronal Mechanisms of Interpersonal Communication”. Together with some colleagues she founded “Neuroscience for you – Institute for Knowledge Transfer from the Neurosciences”. Her goal is to bring current brain research closer to the interested lay audiences.
The book accompanying the lecture series: “Gehirn für Einsteiger” (Brain for Beginners) is an introduction to the brain for interested laypeople by Dr. Manuela Macedonia and Stefanie Höhl with illustrations by Klaus Pitter. In it, the authors cover the basics of cognitive and neuroscience in a catchy, easy-to-understand language. The content is up-to-date, the structure systematic and progressive: the perfect introduction to the brain! The book is available in the Ars Electronica Center Shop for 18€.
