“You come together to build an autonomous village – a village where living beings of different kind and kind live together, in unison with the land. Where everyone has a roof above their head, where rest is encouraged and work not forced. Without lords or police or politicians. Where the fruits of one’s tree can be freely enjoyed and shared among the community. Where the air is clear and its winds bend the flowers growing in the fields. Where the lived world is the political world. That is the village, of which dreaming of is forbidden.”
Max Jurani

For the third time, the Time-Based and Interactive Media Art department of the University of Art and Design Linz presented 13 new projects on Cooperative Aesthetics in the Deep Space 8k as part of the Ars Electronica Festival 2020. The works were created as part of the course “AEC Deep Space” under the direction of Prof. Gerhard Funk and assistant Prof. Holunder Heiss and enable the visitors to have a common audiovisual aesthetic experience. The interaction between all users, their communication and collaboration are essential. The concept of cooperative aesthetics entails a strong social component in addition to its aesthetic qualities in order to let people interact with each other.
