Inside Festival: Ars Electronica 2021 starts in 55 days or 1,338 hours or 80,280 minutes…
Wed July 14, 2021 / 4 p.m. (CET)

(Linz, 12.7.2021) Fascinating exhibitions, inspiring talks and conferences, theme-specific guided tours, workshops and great concerts featuring digital and/or classical music, all taking place in Linz and 100 other locations around the globe: from September 8 to 12, the Ars Electronica Festival will once again take the stage as a hybrid event. This time, the thematic starting point for our journey around the world is the call for a “New Digital Deal.” At Ars Electronica Home Delivery on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Gerfried Stocker (Artistic Director of Ars Electronica), Martin Honzik (CCO of Ars Electronica), Veronika Liebl (Managing Director of Ars Electronica) and Christl Baur (Head of Ars Electronica Festival) will provide insights into this year’s festival theme and present “Community Festival Projects” in which all festival partners will participate. The live stream will start at 4 p.m. CET.

Preparations in full swing
Preparations for this year’s Ars Electronica Festival “A New Digital Deal” are already in full swing. After the successful launch last year of a hybrid online garden concept with many partners around the world, this year’s participants are not only producing plenty of top-notch content for the festival’s online section, but also hosting a variety of local events in their respective countries. Between now and the start of the festival on September 8, Ars Electronica Home Delivery will be presenting sneak peeks once a week in July, and twice a week in August, into the programs of its partner gardens around the world and the activities taking place on location in Linz.

Ars Electronica Festival
On September 18, 1979, the first Ars Electronica Festival debuted in Linz. It was a pilot project that took the emerging digital revolution as an occasion to inquire into possible futures and to locate this inquiry at the interface of art, technology and society. With this philosophy, which is still valid today, the cyberneticist and physicist Herbert W. Franke (AT), the electronic musician Hubert Bognermayr (AT), the music producer Ulli A. Rützel (AT) and Hannes Leopoldseder (AT), then director of the ORF regional studio in Upper Austria, laid the foundation for the success story of Ars Electronica. Today, more than 40 years later, Ars Electronica is one of the world’s largest hybrid platforms for media art, a festival for digital music, a showcase for creativity and innovation, and a playground for the next generation.
