Rake - minimize your information
Tessa Aichelburg, Luis Hofmeister, Lukas Kaufmann, Paul Schreiber (AT)
In this project, every piece of information is analyzed by an algorithm and sorted according to its relevance for the average reader. The most superfluous messages are weeded out, printed out, and then shredded.

Art & D Lab : Significant Other
Jonas Lund (SE) x Televic (BE)
The artist Jonas Lund collaborated with the Belgian telecommunication company Televic in the framework of Gluon’s Art & D Labs. He realized the work Significant Other, an intelligent, networked sculptural display installed in two locations in Belgium and Bulgaria. Descending from the ceiling, two cameras and flat-screens are programmed to read the “emotional state” of each person crossing their pathway.

Ciutat Vella’s Land-use Plan
300.000 Km/s (ES)
Big Data, KDD and Citizen Participation to Ensure Coexistence between Economic Activity and Citizens’ Quality of Life The project embodies a new way of making urban planning. Fueled by massive information (open data and big data) and complemented with qualitative data arising from citizen participation, the project applies novel methodologies of spatial analysis based on machine learning and artificial intelligence to inform, simulate, and draft a public policy that puts the focus on preserving liveability in cities.

The Seeker
Nye Thompson (UK)
The Seeker is a proto-AI that travels the world virtually looking through compromised surveillance camera eyes and describing its visions. Named for Ptah-Seker, the artist/technologist god of Ancient Egypt, who created the world by speaking the words to describe it, this project looks at how the act of describing the world might establish a whole new worldview for machines and humans alike.

Feminist Data Set
Caroline Sinders (US)
Feminist Data Set acts as a means to combat bias and introduce the possibility of data collection as a feminist practice, aiming to produce a slice of data to intervene in larger civic and private networks. Exploring its potential to disrupt larger systems by generating new forms of agency, this work asks: can data collection itself function as an artwork?

Anatomy of an AI System
Vladan Joler (RS), Kate Crawford (AU)
Anatomy of an AI uses the example of Amazon Echo to show the countless components and factors behind the production of artificial intelligence systems. But this process is so complex that its full extent can hardly be comprehended.

LightWing II
Uwe Rieger (DE/NZ), Yinan Liu (NZ), arc/sec Lab (NZ)
The interactive installation LightWing II creates a mysterious sensation of tactile data. It allows the visitor to navigate through holographic spaces and to explore responsive narratives.

Organic Primitive Bioplastics
Primitive Labs Biodesign (US)
Organic Primitive Bioplastics challenges endless data accumulation and memory by posing an ephemeral paradigm for interacting with objects, driven by organic intelligences. Using a library of biomaterials to give objects a “voice” to communicate, everyday things are transformed into ephemeral information displays that change color, odor, and form in response to fluids.

NARRATION
Narration in the classical sense acquires a new dimension in the digital realm and shows laconically in images, what wouldn’t be possible with words. A little girl dreaming of becoming an astronaut, randomly found film footage casting new light on a deceased father, what will happen when a group of people suddenly lose their self-control – just a few examples of this program.

DATA NARRATION
This program seeks to raise some sociological and ecological questions. Visualizations of air pollution, maritime data, artistic research into diabetes, and an analysis of group dynamics are among the topics. It also asks what happens when humans and AI mutate into a single consciousness.
