Crafting Futures Lab “Oscillating Bodies” – Workshop
Lilo Viehweg (DE)
Piezoelectric crystals intra-act in mountains, laboratories, technological devices, corals, bones, hair and teeth. They convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and vis versa. This oscillation between different energy states is a lively, material form of information transfer that, for example, stimulates bone growth, makes watches throb at a certain beat, or generates images through sonar and ultrasound devices.
Crafting Futures Lab "Photoelectric Blueberries" – Workshop
Monja Hirscher (AT/DE)
In the early 1990s, Michael Grätzel developed a solar cell that works on the basis of plant pigments. It works in a similar way to photosynthesis and is easy to build with widely available materials.
Crafting Futures Lab “Weaving as Material Calculus” – Workshop
Laura Devendorf (US), Irene Posch (AT)
Weaving is programming. This connection is often cited in conjunction with Ada Lovelace. This workshop plays with these themes and ideas both on paper and the online tool AdaCAD.org
MOVEMENT ROBOTICS
Chris Ziegler (DE)
The workshop takes place in an interactive robotic stage of around 30 motorized LEDs, researching the relation of human physical motion in a relation to a mechanized environment. How can we make the user or audience experience more physical and participatory? The body of a dancer is connected to the environment and interacts both with the audience and the mechanical system through digital interfaces.
Lañilawal - The ancient messenger tree at the south of the world
Jonathan Barichivich Henríquez (CL) Jesús Román Carreño (CL) Ivan Flores Arancibia (CL)
The oldest living being on Earth could be the Lañilawal tree in southern Chile. The Alerce Milenario remains in the mode of a deferred time removed from the time scale of humans. How to show the pulse of this life? Bringing together a group of artists and scientists, the Lañilawal project is an approach to get a glimpse of this living time capsule with the purpose of understanding its message.

Interface Cultures
University of Art and Design Linz (AT)
Just as neighboring nations can develop separate cultures — in part due to forces of nature that separate them such as rivers and mountains — so art and science often present themselves as if divided into two different cultures and languages. Paradoxically, the construction of bridges, as well as other vehicles intended to facilitate communication between different cultures, were projects originally assigned to artist-scientists. But just as bridges can be built, so can they be destroyed. And indeed, up to this day it seems that there are still too many bridges to be built, as well as others more fragile that need to be reinforced.
