In a total of nine episodes, artists and researchers from the Ars Electronica Futurelab tell stories about and memories of utopias transformed into reality and their prototypes of the future.

The institution’s think and do tank, which was founded in 1996, has almost completely reappraised its 25-year history by working on this project. Deep Virtual, a specially developed setting for Deep Space 8K, serves as an impressive backdrop for the protagonists* while creating space for new ideas.

In collaboration with author and curator Andreas J. Hirsch, “Alchemists of the Future: Ars Electronica Futurelab – The First 25 Years and Beyond” was produced, a book that serves as the basis for the unusual video production:

By the way: “Alchemists of the Future” is also the title of an interactive and hybrid exhibition that opened as part of the festival at the Ars Electronica Center and is also accessible to web visitors via a Hybrid Space.
