Deep Space: Upper Austria Special

Whether film, sound, programming or interface technology, the course of study "Time-based and Interactive Media" gives its students a lot of freedom to express themselves creatively. The resulting work is as varied as the studies themselves.

Tour: Upper Austrian Panoptikum II

The University of Art and Design in Linz and Ars Electronica have had close ties for many years. As part of the "TIME OUT" exhibition series, for example, the Ars Electronica Center is making space available to young media artists studying "Time-based and Interactive Media" for their artworks. In this tour we will present some of these works.

Final event "Mission X - Train Like an Astronaut"

For several years now, the big final event of Mission X Austria has been taking place at the Ars Electronica Center. Due to this year's exceptional situation caused by COVID-19, we unfortunately can't invite the many school classes that participated this year to the Ars Electronica Center, but of course we'll still have a special program.

Family Tour

After last year's great success, the Master School of Communication Design at HTL1 Linz is once again presenting its works of art at the Ars Electronica Center, which they designed in the framework of Nextcomic. In this Family Tour we present the students' artworks and show you how Augmented Reality can be used.

Tour: Power to the People II (EN)

This tour focuses on the installation "MegaPixels" of our new "Understanding Artificial Intelligence" exhibition. "MegaPixels" is an independent art and research project that explores the origin and individual impact of image recognition data sets and the related ethics of privacy and its role in the expansion of biometric surveillance technologies. The project aims to provide a critical perspective on machine learning image data sets that might be overlooked by academic and industrially funded AI think tanks. Each dataset presented on this website will undergo a thorough review of its images, intentions and funding sources.

Science Talk: Biohacking with Andreas Stürmer (EN)

Biohacking is made up of two words: once from "bio", like biology, and "hacking", the decoding of systems. So biohacking is about deciphering your own body and optimizing it. In this Science Talk, Andreas Stürmer, biologist and infotrainer at the Ars Electronica Center, will give you insights into the world of do-it-yourself biology.

Tour: Power to the People I (EN)

Only educated scientists can do research? Not at all! Non-scientists can also participate in scientific processes and thus become an active part of the knowledge society. At Citizen Science, interested laypersons can help with scientific projects or carry them out completely alone by making observations, taking measurements or evaluating data. In this tour we present this project to you!

Science Talk: OCT - A look beneath the surface

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an innovative method for the non-destructive examination of various materials. Developed in the early 1990s, speed, resolution and stability have since been significantly improved. As a result, new fields of application can be opened up continuously. In this interactive presentation, Günther Hannesschläger explains how the method works. Learn more about some important practical examples and find out what exactly the Reserach Center for Non-Destructive Testing in Linz is researching in this area.

Tour: Navigating The Future (Featuring FH AMU Wieselburg)

In this tour we will look at some examples from the "Global Shift" and "Understanding ArtificiaI Intelligence" exhibitions and talk about how mankind is using increasingly advanced technologies to influence not only his own living space but nearly every aspect of life. Students of the FH AMU Wieselburg are also connected via live stream.

Concert: Laurie Anderson, John Cage and Elliot Goldenthal by Maki Namekawa und Dennis Russell Davies

Every Friday evening we present a live concert from the Ars Electronica Center's "Piano Room". This week you can expect music by Laurie Anderson, John Cage and Elliot Goldenthal, played by Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies.

Tour: Bio Art & Science IV

We’re not alone! From unicellular organisms to humans, all animals and plants are inhabited by microbial organisms. These microorganisms influence the fitness of their host and together they form a metaorganism.
