In the work „PingPong by Gerhard Funk, users form pairs that are connected by a color bar between them. But this connection breaks when they move too far apart from each other. The color bar works like a ping-pong racket and now the playerstask is to put a ball into the goal with it. But the ball is quickly moving on the floor and bouncing off obstacles, so the challenge now is to stay together as a pair and hit the ball in the right direction.

For the third time, the Time-Based and Interactive Media Art department of the University of Art and Design Linz presented 13 new projects on Cooperative Aesthetics in the Deep Space 8k as part of the Ars Electronica Festival 2020. The works were created as part of the course “AEC Deep Space” under the direction of Prof. Gerhard Funk and assistant Prof. Holunder Heiss and enable the visitors to have a common audiovisual aesthetic experience. The interaction between all users, their communication and collaboration are essential. The concept of cooperative aesthetics entails a strong social component in addition to its aesthetic qualities in order to let people interact with each other.
