In this presentation you will get an overview of Austrian space activities and the activities of the Aerospace Agency of the FFG. Did you know that Austria is a country of satellites? How well do you know the European Space Agency ESA? Its programs, member states and especially Austrian contributions to ESA satellite missions and rockets are presented here. In Austria itself, the FFG is a partner in the promotion of young scientists: national and international training programs and continuing education opportunities are offered. For students there are some student initiatives in Austria (e.g. TU Vienna Space Team) and the university courses “Space”. You will get an overview of ESA projects, competitions and activities for young researchers and technicians. The Alpbach Summer School is known worldwide. This is a European think tank on Austrian initiative for future satellite missions, a forge of European spaceflight. Every year, 60 selected scientists and engineers from ESA member states (including 10 students from Austria) deal with the planning of new satellite missions on different topics of space research. The necessary scientific basics and technical requirements are provided to the participants in a unique theory-practice combination of lectures and workshops.
