The oceans and seas of the world are not only a habitat for fish and microorganisms: day and night, countless gigantic cargo ships move from continent to continent to supply us with goods. These two systems – the fragile marine biology of the sea inhabitants and the dense networks of transport industry routes – have an enormous impact on our planet and climate. To visualize these complex interrelationships, several interactive digital posters are available in the Global Shift exhibition, illustrating information with thoughtful graphics. For example, Studio Kiln has visualized data from cargo ships from 2012 on a world map that impressively shows the many necessary transport routes of the world economy. And in cooperation with marine biologists from the Max Planck Institute, the Science Communication Lab developed a scientific poster that makes the most complex biological processes of the ocean accessible and understandable for everyone.
