Media art, generative AI, innovation from Europe and Africa and plenty of bearers of hope – the “Prix Ars Electronica Award Ceremony” celebrates pioneers at the interface of art, technology and society.
The Prix Ars Electronica Award Ceremony, which is taking place this year at the Design Center Linz, is a central event of every Ars Electronica Festival. It is an evening by and for people whose work, vision and spirit is a source of inspiration and hope for others. It is an evening where the stage and all the attention belongs to artists, researchers, pioneers and activists. The Golden Nicas, which were awarded in 2024 in the categories “New Animation Art”, “Interactive Art+” and the Austria-wide category “u19 – create your world”, will be presented.
Please note: You can attend the Award Ceremony by invitation only. Thank you for your understanding.
Doors open at 18:45
The Golden Nica of New Animation Art goes to Beatie Wolfe (GB), in Interactive Art+ it is awarded to Diane Cescutti (FR) and in the category u19 – create your world to Jakob Gruber (AT). The “AI in Art Award” initiated in 2024 will also be officially presented during the Award Ceremony – to Paul Trillo (US).
Because the most traditional media art prize in the world has also become a platform for other institutions that – just like Ars Electronica – want to promote and utilize meaningful crossovers between different areas of our society, there will be further award ceremonies on this evening.
This year’s S+T+ARTS Prize of the European Commission goes to Vladan Joler and Kate Crawford / Calculating Empires and Monica Bello / Arts at CERN. The first ever “S+T+ARTS Prize Africa” will be awarded to Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC) / Balot NFT. The winners will receive their STARTS Trophy during the Prix Ars Electronica Award Ceremony.
Ars Electronica was also able to host another European Commission award in the form of the “European Union Prize for Citizen Science”. The winners are Kerstin Neumann, Roberto Papa / INCREASE: Intelligent Collections of Food-Legume Genetic Resources for European Agrofood Systems INCREASE Citizen Science Experiment (CSE) and will be invited on stage at the “Prix Ars Electronica Award Ceremony”.
Together with the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, Ars Electronica 2024 has organized two competitions for artists. This time, the “Ars Electronica Award for Digital Humanity” will go to Paulien Geerlings, Jantine Jongebloed, Eva Knibbe, Noelía Martin-Montalvo, Nina Van Tongeren, de Toneelmakerij / Patchwork Girl.
