For Visitors

The Ars Electronica Festival takes place once a year in September in Linz, Austria. The Festival for Art, Technology and Society 2019 took place from Thursday, September 5, to Monday, September 9, 2019 at several locations in Linz – first and foremost at the Ars Electronica Center and the POSTCITY at Linz Central Station. The Ars Electronica Festival 2020 will take place from September 9 to 13, 2020, in Linz!

All festival locations are located in and around Linz and can be reached by public transport (tram, bus, train), bicycle or on foot.

  • Your way to Linz, Austria:
    • By plane: The Blue Danube Airport Linz (LNZ) is located in Hörsching, 10 km from Linz. From there you can reach the city by bus, train or taxi.
    • By train: By ÖBB or by Westbahn you will reach Linz Hauptbahnhof. The POSTCITY is located directly next to the station building. Please note: Several construction and maintenance works will be carried out on the railway line between Salzburg and Linz up to and including SUN September 8, 2019 – as only one track is available, timetable adjustments will be made during this period – see ÖBB’s note
    • By bus: Long-distance buses stop in the immediate neighborhood of POSTCITY. The best way to find out about regional bus connections is here: OÖVV, FlixBus
  • In Linz:
    • By tram: The festival mile is located along the central tram axis of Linz. You can use all tram lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Linz AG.
    • By car: The address of the POSTCITY is Bahnhofplatz 11, 4020 Linz, Austria. You can reach POSTCITY via Waldeggstraße (B 139). ATTENTION: There are no free parking spaces on site! We therefore recommend the following chargeable multi-storey car parks in the surrounding area: Garage Bahnhof – Wissensturm Linz, Hauptbahnhof Parkdeck, Bahnhof Landesdienstleistungszentrum.

The program of this year’s Ars Electronica comprises more than 500 events. Infos about the program can be found here, helpful PDF files can be downloaded in our download area. Subscribe to our Newsletter or follow us on the social media platforms!

Both the Ars Electronica Center, POSTCITY and other festival locations in downtown Linz are largely barrier-free. However, since Ars Electronica also repeatedly takes place at unusual venues designed for completely different purposes, it may occasionally happen that exhibition spaces are not barrier-free. We apologize for any inconvenience!

Unfortunately, dogs and other pets cannot be taken into the Ars Electronica Center or the POSTCITY.

We recommend that you book your accommodation in Linz as early as possible. We have listed possible locations in and around Linz on ars.electronica.art/outofthebox/hotels.

Our publications are distributed by the publishing house Hatje Cantz and are available both locally at Ars Electronica Center and from various online stores. The Festival Catalogue 2019 will be published in August 2019. Please also search our Online Archive for our previous publications.
