Groundless is a video creation that displays weightless bodies moving and morphing to the rhythm of an acoustic music soundtrack. The work brings together an aerial circus artist and two musicians that make use of motion capture, video game engines and spiking neural networks (SNN) to explore the expressive qualities of virtual bodies in suspension. Over time, the interactions between virtual bodies, music, and SNN generate an emerging sense of temporal organizations.

ALMA (Alexandre Saunier & Marc-André Cossette) and Paloma Leyton mix circus aerial techniques, acoustic music, motion capture, video game engines, and AI algorithms to explore the hybridisation of human movements with computing processes and the representation of bodies in virtual worlds. Marc-André Cossette is Hexagram Network doctoral student member at Concordia University, and Alexandre Saunier is former student member, having completed a PhD in 2022 also from Concordia University. Paloma Leyton is Hexagram Network doctoral student member at Université du Québec à Montréal.
