NTMoFA X Ars Electronica

Co-Commissioned Artwork by Simple Noodle Art

Ars Electronica Festival exhibition dates: 4. – 8. September 2024
Techno Art Exhibition NTMoFA exhibition dates: 30. November 2024 – 16. February 2025

In 2024, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) and Ars Electronica join forces for the very first time in co-commissioning a critical artwork production of a Taiwanese artist or artist collective. The collaboration between Ars Electronica and NTMoFA promises to be an exciting venture, blending the artistic heritage of NTMoFA and the innovative spirit of Ars Electronica.

The winner of the first iteration is the collective Simple Noodle Art with their exploration of AI driven narratives and personalized contents for social media. Their installation aims to explore whether AI is exacerbating social divisions when faced with the dilemma of exploring and exploiting humans. The work consists of an AI interactive video system that can switch narrative perspectives based on the audience’s emotions—and a play-within-a-play technique. The installation will be poised to captivate audiences at both the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz and the NTMoFA Techno Art Exhibition in Taiwan.

Moreover, the collaboration not only highlights the talent of Taiwanese artists but also serves as a platform for international visibility, showcasing the vibrant art scene and fostering cross-cultural exchange. The dual exhibition presence at Ars Electronica and NTMoFA ensures a global audience, further solidifying Taiwan’s position as a hub for art and technology collaboration.

With the project set to commence in March and conclude in November 2024, it promises to be a transformative journey, pushing boundaries and redefining the possibilities of art in the digital age.

About the artists

Simple Noodle Art is an art collective founded by Chen Zi-Yin and Chuang Hsiang-Feng in 2019. They use diverse media, including installation, video, net art, photography, and AI. With a background in art and information technology respectively, Chen and Chuang focus on the interaction between technology and humans, along with how such interactions alter and impact lifestyles. Through interdisciplinary thinking, they aim to create works like simple noodles with simple ingredients, but with an amazing taste.

They have been awarded Prix Ars Electronica, New Animation Art Category, Honorary Mention (2023), and Taipei Art Award, Honorary Mention (2023). Their past works have been exhibited at various institutions, including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM), Arko Art Center, the Jut Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei (MOCA), and Absolute Space for the Arts.
