Die Pumpe arbeitet langsam, ist von Natur aus unproduktiv und strahlt ein Gefühl der Trägheit aus. Ihre Trägheit biegt die Zeit und schützt uns vor einer linearen normativen Erfahrung: Ein performativer Akt, der es ermöglicht, den Verlust und die Liminalität von Rückkopplungsnetzwerken zu untersuchen. Aus jedem Zyklus sickert das Unbekannte hervor. Die Pumpe folgt ihrer eigenen Logik, indem sie dem sichtbaren Prozess des Saug- und Druckhubs Bedeutung verleiht. Dieses intelligente Objekt ist mit einem trainierten Netzwerk verbunden. Das herabtropfende Wasser verändert die angezeigten Daten in Echtzeit. Die Pumpe hat einen digitalen Zwilling, der die Form hat, in der sie Daten empfängt. Auf diese Weise wird die Pumpe zu einem physisch-virtuellen Ökosystem.
Die Technologie war nie von Natur aus bösartig. Wir haben sie dazu gemacht, indem wir alles Fremde abgelehnt und sie in Formen gezwungen haben, die uns vertraut sind. Um uns mit ihr wirklich anzufreunden, müssen wir mit echter Empathie begegnen. Am Rande des selbstverschuldeten Zusammenbruchs könnte diese pumpende Maschine das Letzte sein, was uns auf sanfte Weise vor Gefahren schützt.
