The WE GUIDE YOU program is a comprehensive range of different tours that bring visitors to the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival closer to the various exhibitions and works. This year almost all of the tours are exclusively featured online. For the Kepler’s Garden at the JKU campus in Linz, visitors can book a tour along with the ticket.

For many online tours you have to register in advance (sometimes before the festival starts!). Please note the registration instructions and deadlines for each tour

Future of Inclusion Lab

American Arts Incubator is a creative exchange program that utilizes community-driven digital and new media art projects to instigate dialogue, build communities, bolster local economies, and further social innovation while addressing a local social or environmental challenge. This year’s iteration in Austria was led by artist Rashin Fahandej, who ran the “Future of Inclusion Lab,” a series of co-creation workshops that provided technology and resource access to Austria-based creatives.

ESERO Austria (AT)

ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office) is a project run by the European Space Agency (ESA) and education partners in various European countries to promote the interest of young people in scientific issues (MINT subjects in primary and secondary education). In order to achieve this goal, ESERO offers teachers a wide range of teaching materials and training programs. ESERO Austria has been active at the Ars Electronica Center Linz on behalf of ESA and FFG/BMK since 2016.

CanSat

Countless satellites orbit earth. They constantly provide new images and insights about our planet and move it into ever new perspectives. The view from above is the starting point for an interdisciplinary view of the Earth and the implementation of these themes in design lessons.

Art & Science Crossovers: A Journey with BOZAR, Waag and gnration

We're travelling to Garden Amsterdam, Brussels and Braga in this tour, where BOZAR, Waag and gnrtion give insights into the thought-provoking programming at the intersection of art and science they're presenting in the framework of the festival.

Expert Tour: Ecology through the looking glass

This tour is dedicated to the theme of ecology, which is one of the concise, red threads running through this year's Ars Electronica Festival. Together with the project coordinator Manuela Hillmann, you'll get a detailed look at the theme through the organizers of selected Online Gardens.

EMAP Tour

In this tour, EMAP member organizations will give insight into their Ars Electronica Festival program and projects that address ecological issues. Many of the ecological challenges of our time will only be mastered with creative and cooperative approaches.

Ars Electronica Export - Tour and Networking

Ars Electronica Export is travelling to Nikosia (RISE), Dresden (Hygienemuseum), Esch-sur-Alzette (Cultural Capital2022) and San Sebastian (Tabakalera) to talk about the collaboration and projects not only we can see during Ars Electronica Festival 2020.

Gallery Spaces Tour

For the Gallery Spaces Tour Ars Electronica invites Gallery Spaces participants to check out each other’s online exhibitions beforehand and present their perspective and interpretations. This event will allow Gallery Spaces participants to get connected, evaluate how online exhibitions are received by a new audience and also offer the general public access to navigate online exhibitions.

Garage Digital: Worlds beyond Worlds

Hybrid Experiences: A Journey with Tangible Media Group, MindSpaces and MEET Digital Culture Center

This tour takes us to Garden Cambridge, Milan and Thessaloniki, as Tangible Media Group, MEET Digital Culture Center and European project MindSpaces give us an insight into their projects working with VR, multisensing technologies and telepresence. Artists, researchers and scientists take a deep dive into their practice and unique perspectives of creating hybrid experiences between physical and digital space.

World Wide Webb by the British artist Thomas Webb is a virtual world the digital visitor enters through the browser on a smartphone. It is a multiplayer video game, a digital exhibition space and a world full of art and characters the visitor is invited to interact with. Webb recreates the social spontaneity of the world pre-Covid-19. He built a virtual world for new media artists to share their thoughts on what technology is and could be. The visitor meets AI avatars designed by Webb, to reflect the human nature and to question the use of technology in the digital age. Net art is presented in its genuine medium, the digital realm, where video art is also easily accessible.

Mission X

Mission X is an international school class competition that has been in existence since 2011 and is held annually in over 25 countries worldwide. NASA and ESA have developed a series of exercises and lessons to teach space knowledge, exercise, sports and the importance of healthy eating in daily life.

Emilie Trice & LAST/RESORT present Garden del Rio Grande
LAST/RESORT (US)

Garden del Rio Grande pays homage to the geographic region around the Rio Grande River, which runs from central Colorado along the U.S./Mexico border to the Gulf of Mexico. Our garden contemplates how technology can reconnect us to the land and amplify indigenous voices, while questioning to what extent can art and design fortify sustainable ecologies. Through emerging technology we seek to reverse-engineer the past in order to reimagine the future.

This tour is dedicated to the theme of Technology and Uncertainty, which are one of the concise, red threads running through this year's Ars Electronica Festival. Together with project coordinator Manuela Hillmann, you'll get a detailed look at it through the organizers of selected online gardens. We will start with a glass of wine at a wine tasting party in Hong Kong and look ahead to Moscow and Lviv. You'll explore a wide variety of approaches to this theme and be surprised at the variety of ways in which it can be illuminated from artistic, scientific and social perspectives.

The Tides within Us

A behind-the-scenes look into The Tides Within Us, a collaboration between Marshmallow Laser Feast and Fraunhofer MEVIS. The project investigates the flow of oxygen through the cardiovascular system, painting a picture of a human body as a fluid event, more like a whirlpool than a static object. This flow questions the boundary of where this living body begins and where it ends. When our skin becomes transparent, deeper connections become apparent.

THE WILD STATE: State of Intimacy

This unique exhibition reflects, in many respects, the diversity of the international Interface Cultures students group. Many of the students’ art and technology projects seem to encourage us to consider new collective values. THE WILD STATE: Networked

The exhibition “The Wild State: networked” seeks to leave the state of uncertainty behind us by bringing some of the most recent and interesting contributions to the Hauptplatz in Linz. Sound Campus is a new program especially oriented towards examining the state of experimental sound practices at universities and research centers. It opens a possibility for students and researchers to present new forms of understanding sonic art to the big audience of Ars Electronica Festival. This year’s program, curated by Enrique Tomás, presents uneasy sound performances resonating in the face of a critical present. Intrusive music touching us despite lockdowns.
