In the short film “Liebe ist kein Spielfilm” (Love is not a feature film), Sabine Wimmer humorously points out the differences between cinematically staged romance and reality. Using talking film posters, she interweaves parodies of love movie classics with her own narrative.

The protagonist is a young man whose movie posters give him tips on how to win back his ex-girlfriend. It quickly becomes clear, however, that what works in Hollywood and Disney films is often doomed to failure in real life. Love Is Not a Movie parodies the three love stories Notting Hill, Dirty Dancing and Lady and the Tramp. Well-known scenes are woven into a different frame story and provided with punchlines in which the romantic moments of the love films are destroyed. Costumes, posters and music closely follow the originals. The filmmaker recorded the instrumental soundtrack herself. She used Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to create the moving posters in post-production. The debut project was created in the course of a practice-oriented pre-scientific work on the topic of parody. Due to the social distancing regulations prevailing at the time of the film’s creation, Sabine Wimmer realized the project within her family household.

Liebe ist kein Spielfilm was awarded Young Professionals Honorary Mention in the u19-create your world category at the Prix Ars Electronica 2021.
