ManicVR is an impressive narrative about the complex world of people with bipolar disorder. The two siblings Felicia and François Bertin are themselves affected by the mental illness. They have been using the voicemail of their sister, filmmaker Kalina Bertin, as a personal diary for three years now.

Sky Brought Down
Åsa Stjerna (SE)

Åsa Stjerna’s site-specific work was developed as a permanent sound installation for the University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. Even though it doesn’t demand a great deal of attention of its audience, Sky Brought Down generously soothes and helps balance the hospital sounds, without disturbing the fragile balance of an everyday work space. A weather station on the roof of the hospital forwards weather data in real time to the sound installation.

SHE BON
Sarah Petkus (US)

The SHE BON project is a collection of body augments which sense aspects of the wearer’s physical state in order to communicate sexual arousal. Collectively, the systems that have been developed for this project make up a highly personalized “suit of amour” capable of orchestrating sensor input from the body in order to display mechanical and electronic forms of performative output which express subtle aspects of the wearer’s physical state in a manner that characterizes their sexual identity.

Established in 1995 in Darmstadt, the gallery space moved to Frankfurt in 1998. From the beginning, the emphasis has been on promoting young artists. In particular, the gallery has worked for the promotion of video and new media art by enabling artists to show their work in the necessary settings, as well as supporting publications and productions. Gallery artists have also been invited to take part in the exhibitions of important, international museums, international festivals and biennials.
