A Trust Play is a live reading experiment initiated by Fang-Yi Cheng, involving five strangers brought together through verbal agreement and mutual risk. This performance embraces uncertainty and explores collective trust—not only as a test of what reading can be, but also as a quiet inquiry into cooperation, the unknown, and honest expression.
The piece is based on a short text written in advance and divided into five parts, with each participant receiving only their own fragment—unaware of the others’ lines until the words come together in public. Only during the performance—on stage and in front of an audience—the full text is assembled for the first time.
