Inspired by the pearl’s formation—where foreign matter is enveloped and transformed—Nacre imagines a process where bacteria or fungi act on plastic, partially degrading it through biological encapsulation. This bioremediation suggests that shelter and exclusion form a dynamic system of transformation.
