At the Large Hadron Collider, scientists probe the smallest scales using the largest scientific
instrument. Tens of thousands of scientists, engineers, technicians, and staff from dozens of countries
collaborate to operate the LHC in pursuit of their scientific goals.
This talk will present an overview of the past, present, and future of experimental particle physics and discuss the decades-long planning process for the required infrastructure. Topics covered will include the challenges of technological innovation, coordination in the context of worldwide collaborations, and large-scale distribution of data and computation.
